Every commission begins with a story. I start by studying your chosen photograph and listening to the meaning behind it — the memory, the person, or the place you want to preserve. From there, I translate those details onto canvas using traditional oil techniques. Each painting is built up in layers, allowing depth, light, and texture to emerge. The result is a timeless piece of fine art that feels alive and deeply personal.

A custom painting isn’t just a picture on a wall — it’s an heirloom. Whether created from a vintage family photo, a portrait of a loved one, or a special place, each work carries emotional resonance that digital images simply can’t hold. These paintings are designed to last for generations, making them meaningful gifts for weddings, anniversaries, memorials, or family celebrations.

FAQs

What kind of photos work best for a custom painting?
I’ve found that vintage or old photographs, Polaroids, or even digital snapshots of candid moments make the best reference for custom paintings. These types of images capture natural emotion, atmosphere, and storytelling, which help bring a painting to life.

I typically avoid photos where people are smiling directly at the camera, because while cheerful, they can feel less painterly or artistic. Instead, I love photos that feel like a glimpse into a memory — moments where your subjects are interacting, thinking, or simply existing in a scene. These “window-into-life” moments create the most expressive and dynamic paintings that truly feel personal.

How does the custom oil painting process work?
After purchasing your commission, I will personally reach out to you to gather the photograph you’d like transformed into a painting. If you have multiple images, I’ll help you choose the one that works best. Before I begin, I’ll also ask about the wall and space where you plan to display the piece, so we can align on your interior design style, colors, and mood. Once the vision is clear, I begin painting. I share progress updates along the way, and within about 3–4 weeks your artwork will be complete and ready to ship.

What framing options do you offer?
Framing can elevate your custom oil painting into a ready-to-hang statement piece. I offer natural pine frames, sleek black frames, and elegant gold frames as standard options. If your home or office calls for something more specific, I’m happy to custom order a frame that better suits your space and interior design style.

simply select a framed option when ordering. You can also always upgrade to a frame at additional cost later on.

Do you ship domestic and internationally?
Yes, I ship both domestically and internationally. Domestic U.S. shipping is included in the price of your commission. For international orders, additional costs may apply depending on location. All paintings are packaged with professional care to ensure safe delivery.

Domestic shipping cost is included, international shipping is extra. Shipping protection may be added at extra cost to the buyer.

Can I send a painting as a gift?
Absolutely. I offer gift wrapping to make your painting extra special if you’re giving it for a wedding, anniversary, birthday, or other milestone. A custom oil painting makes a meaningful and unforgettable gift.

Let me know in the begining of the painting process if this is a gift - and I will include gift wrapping.

Do you allow revisions or adjustments?
Yes, within reason — I want you to feel confident and excited about your artwork. I share progress updates so we stay aligned throughout the process. I typically offer one round of revisions, which can include adjustments to the color palette or tone. My goal is to ensure the final painting reflects both your vision and the spirit of the original photo.

I typically offer one round of adjustments, and ensure that we are aligned on vision early on in the process. Additional revisions or change of subject may result in a new commission price.

Can you create artwork from more than one photo?
Yes, I can merge multiple references into a single cohesive composition. For example, if you’d like two relatives from different photos combined into one painting, I can create a unified portrait.

Do you create art in other mediums besides oil painting?
Yes. In addition to oil paintings, I also offer custom charcoal drawings and watercolor paintings. These can be a beautiful alternative if you’re looking for a more minimal or delicate artwork. Please reach out through my contact page to inquire about watercolor or charcoal commissions.

What makes a custom oil painting special?
Unlike printed photos, a hand-painted oil portrait carries richness, depth, and texture that make it feel alive. Oil paintings are heirloom-quality works that can last for generations. Whether from a vintage photograph, a family memory, or a beloved place, your custom painting will preserve that story in timeless fine art.

How long does a custom oil painting take?
The full process — from planning and sketching to painting, drying, and framing (if requested) — typically takes 3–4 weeks. Larger or more detailed pieces may require additional time. If you have a special deadline, such as a wedding or anniversary, please let me know and I’ll do my best to accommodate.
