Painted in Los Angeles during an artistic retreat in 2025, this painting helped me to push my style farther. This was a study of expressive techniques, breaking out of perfectionism, and exploring materials at a deeper level. I love the energetic brushstrokes that command the composition, and this was one of the first studies in which I layered charcoal over the oils - which is now a common proponent in my figurative work.
This study helped me find that feeling my way through a piece truly embeds it with emotion.
