The Star Theater is an iconic landmark in Oceanside, CA. It’s built in that classic 1950’s Southern California style, with a bright pink arch filled with neon-lit stars. Every two years, the Oceanside Museum of Art hosts a plein air festival - a week of outdoor painting and events.
I decided that the Star Theater made a great subject for one of my many paintings that year - and it was a blast to create. Also, that was the year I won 2nd overall in the Plein Air Juried Exhibition at the museum for a subsequent piece, so it holds a special place in my heart.
